I created this graphic for the Longmont Times-Call newspaper to explain how DNA samples collected by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation are gathered, processed, and collected in a national database to aid in criminal investigations. I worked with reporter Pierrette Shields to develop the copy for the graphic, and I designed it in Illustrator. The DNA robot, while not a true-to-life representation of the DNA extraction technologies employed by CBI, represents an important aspect of the process and adds a touch of whimsy to otherwise serious subject matter.
